Purpose of position

The AEGIS Spatial Repellent (SR) Study, seeks to hire Field Research Assistants to carry out field data and sample collection activities of the study in Yumbe district, including; sensitization of local leaders in the refugee settlement; installation of SR in households; completion of informed consent forms in the appropriate languages; administering study questionnaires; completion of study logs and forms; completion of finger-prick blood tests for malaria using rapid diagnostic tests or blood smear; storage as dried blood spots; packing and shipping of samples; and completion of sample storage and transmittal forms. The field research assistants will also provide regular field updates to ensure smooth running of field activities and participate in data cleaning in collaboration with the study coordinators, data management team and investigators.

Key Result Areas/Outputs

·         Mapping, enumeration and enrolment of all study households

·         Installation of SR in the reference arm of the study

·         Timely and accurate completion of informed consent for all study participants

·         Completion of finger prick malaria tests for all participants according to the study protocol

·         Accurate and complete data entry of all study forms, logs and questionnaires

Qualification Required

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:

1.      Experience conducting research in malaria or other infectious diseases, as a study clinician, study lab technician or field research assistant is a must.

2.      Should have undergone training in basic lab technique for collection of blood by finger-prick (this may be as a VHT, research assistant within a research training programme or as a clinician/lab technician in a formal school of biomedical sciences),

3.      Diploma in clinical medicine, lab technology or other humanities.

4.      Evidence of GCP and HSP training,

5.      Ability to work under stringent deadlines

6.  Ability to speak ONE of these local languages is an added advantage (Juba Arabic, Kakwa, and Lugbara-Ti -Aringa dialect)
